QUANDO O ROCK REBOLAVA

O diabo é o pai do rock. A mãe é uma bicha. Vamos chamá-la de Little Richard. desde os uivos desvairados de "Tutti Frutti", o rock nunca negou que fruta preferia. E mesmo rapazes macões - Elvis, Beatles etc. - usavam a ambigüidade sexual, o rebolado, o cabelão etc. para provocar e seduzir. Mesma coisa com assumidos ou simpatizantes que vieram logo depois - Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, Freddie Mercury, Marc Bolan, Elton John. Era bom assim, melhor que hoje. A cena rocker atual é abominável, Bandocas tipo Artic Monkeys, White Stripes, Arcade Fire são muito hetero. Falta rebolado, glamour, senso de espetáculo, senso de drama. Hei! Gosto de Johnny Cash, AC/DC e Motörhead. E gosto de new romantic e electro e Scissor sisters. algum problema? No mundo Black o negócio está pior. É proibido ser gay no hip hop. Todo homem tem de ser tão macho que inclusive é proibido gostar de mulher - só vale gostar das minas em pedaços, do bundão, do coxão etc. O pior xingamento para outro homem é "bitch". Relacionamento mesmo é com os "bros". Que diferença de 1982, ano de "Thriller" e "1999". Michael Jackson e Prince se esfregavam nas gatas nos clipes, mas não enganavam ninguém. Transitavam entre gêneros, rock e funk, baladas melosas e hits de pista, sucesso e a melhor vanguarda pop da época. Escolho 1982 porque foi o melhor ano da história do rock. Por duas razões. Primeira, porque eu fiz 17 anos. Segunda, porque foi o ano mais viado da hitória do rock. Nunca as bichas dominaram tanto o cenário. É por absoluto acaso que não entrei para o clube. Se bem que minhas bandas prediletas dos últimos anos são Dandy Warhols e Killers... pode me chamar de tia velha que não ligo. Foi neste período que o rock explodiu em mil sabores. Vamos chamar isso genericamente de "new wave". Minha primeira banda new wave de coração foi o amercaníssimo B-52's - começo mais bicha, impossível. Mas era a Inglaterra que dava o tom gay - Japan, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Human League, Ultravox, Soft Cell, Visage, Yazoo, Eurythmics, Tears For Fears, Bronski Beat, OMD, Yello, A Flock Of Seagulls, Erasure, Adam and The Ants, Pet Shop Boys, Classix Nouveaux, Kajagoogoo... Sem falar em garotas machonas tipo Chrissie Hynde e Joan Jett. Esa gente era Rock, com R maiúsculo. Fazia shows, compunha músicas e escrevia letras, tocava no rádio, aparecia na tv e influenciava a garotada mundo afora. E erauma turma muito gay - de verdade ou de emntirinha. Por mais macho que fosse o cabra, em 1982 ele tinha de pôr um rimelzinho e rebolar dentro do paletó pastel. E o Culture Club? Boy George virou do dia para a noite uma coisa muito maior que um ícone pop. Era uma supermega celebridade, fashion, esperto e queridinho das crianças, uma combinação de Paris Hilton e Bob Esponja. O último grande nome do período foi Frankie Goes to Hollywood - outra que era bem mais que uma banda, era um adereço, propaganda política, estilo de vida. Foi o ápice do domínio gay no rock e o início do fim. A partir daí começou o dilúvio de remixes dos singles ("Relax" teve trocentos) que foi dar na atual muralha entre rock e dance. Um é música para prestar atenção no que o cara está dizendo. Outro é música sem cara e sem letra. A ponte entre as duas ilhas é rar e coisa de gueto indie - Klaxons e congêneres esvaziam qualquer pista mainstream do planeta. Depois veio 1984, o ano da explosão dos Smiths. Rock lamuriento, entediado, feinho, anti-show business, anti-rebolado, antiprovocação. Fez escola, imediatamente (Michael Stipe, Renato Russo) e hoje (Fall Out Boy e clones). É o rock gay que heteros não se envergonham de gostar. Graças aos céus pela nação emoglam, que ressuscitou o delineador e as camisas com babados. Pode fazer cara feia para My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco e companhia. Mas emo é rock que interessa para a garotada de 15 anos. E se os emos não são gays, imitam bem. É o Suficiente. Do alto do seu flat no Upper West Side, David Bowie - homem de negócios, homem de família, 60 anos janeiro último - pisca um olho cego. Bem-vindos, meninos.
